Magazine Analysis - Empire (Suicide Squad)

On this magazine front cover the central image is one of the featured characters called 'Harley Quinn' considering that she is a well known character in the DC Universe I think that making her the main focus was defiantly a good idea as it immediately grabs the attention of the audience whether they are fans of DC or not.

I think that the magazine front cover is also eye catching because of the bright colour scheme used. There is a pink and blue hue effect put over the background of the magazine which matches the dripping makeup on the characters face. The colour of the titles also match this colour scheme by using pink and white writing this gives the magazine cover a very professional look.

The titles are also placed at the top and bottom of the magazine front cover which allows the character features to stay as the main focus. There is a lot more text to the photo but it doesn't take away from the impact of the central image.

The character appears to be holding a gun and a baseball bat which gives of a threatening vibe and makes the smile on her face almost look manic. The fact that it is a female character holding the weapons contradicts stereotypes of females being weak. Her outfit seems to be tight fitting which may intrigue a male audience but females might find it empowering as she is in a revealing outfit but it is not the main aspect of the character. The characters body seems to be facing away from the camera whilst she is maintaining eye contact with the camera.

Looking at Empire magazine cover for Suicide Squad allowed me to see how the standard design can be adapted for the aesthetic of the movie. This is something I may try to include on my magazine cover if I chose to use Empire as my magazine.
